Lakeshore General Hospital Inpatient Building Addition & Emergency Department Renovation

The Ashern Lakeshore General Hospital Inpatient Addition and Emergency Department Expansion Project is a Construction Management project with Shared Health TMO following Integrated Design Process with early Contractor Engagement through collaboration with the Design Team and end users. At project onset, Marrbeck quickly integrated with the OAC project team and facility stakeholders to understand the key project deliverables and challenges to provide best value solutions for the overall program. Early in pre-construction, Shared Health entrusted Marrbeck with taking on the Life Safety Upgrades Scopes of work to the existing Personal Care Home and the South Core of the Hospital which required to be fully sprinklered. Upon initial review and water flow tests of the existing water services, it was determined that the Town of Ashern couldn’t provide sufficient flow to the facility and that a fire pump and cistern would be required. Marrbeck was involved in providing cost analysis and constructability reviews of alternate locations for the fire pump house and cistern on the site.

The new inpatient addition will include fourteen (14) relocated existing acute care beds and twelve (12) new beds to the Ashern district hub while renovations to the Emergency Department will generate eight (8) new treatment spaces to care for area residence. 

Other challenges that Marrbeck has helped the project team solve includes rerunning of underground services currently located in the footprint of the new addition and optimizing usable space within the Inpatient Addition by finding the best location for major Mechanical and Electrical equipment. 

The project will be delivered in two phases. The new addition will be constructed to allow the relocation of the existing patient beds. Once Phase 1 of the project is complete, Marrbeck will be renovating the Emergency Department while the existing Hospital remains operational.
