Health Sciences Centre, Intermediate Intensive Care Unit, GA-7 Phase 1 & 2
820 Sherbrook Street
Winnipeg, Manitoba
Phase 1 of the project included upgraded the base building GA-7 by removing the remaining original finishes and mechanical and electrical systems, installing new exterior windows, and installing a new concrete sub floor. Phase 1 also included concrete topping removals using jack hammers at strategic times and removing debris during quiet times to avoid disruptions to patients and staff.
Phase 2 included the fit-out including mechanical and electrical of the proposed Intermediate Intensive Care and Step-Down Unit which shares a floor plate occupied by an active Endoscopy Program and an active Dialysis Program below on Level 6 which presented many construction schedule constraints. Noise, infection control protocols, and patient privacy was paramount throughout the project. The rough ins in the dialysis unit were conducted at night which included daily installation and removals of hoardings with negative air and cleaning the spaces afterwards to be ready for dialysis patients the next morning.
Marrbeck coordinated services shutdowns with the maintenance staff months in advance of the work to assure that night shifts were productive with little to no disruption to the facilities operations while turning the services back on prior to shift end. Another highlight of the project was the coordination of the Amico prefabricated headwalls which was a new concept to HSC. Although this took months of meetings and coordination, in the end the headwalls were ordered installed and commissioned with zero deficiencies.
Both phases of the GA-7 project were delivered in a timely manner with little to not disruption to the adjacent floors.
